Produce of the Month for June


The produce for the month of June is a deliciously sweet fruit packed full of juice - pears. Pears are so versatile you can use them in salads, on top of crispbreads like Corn Thins slices, in yoghurt, or just enjoy them as a great snack alone.

Pears not only taste delicious but are a great source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed to make the protein collagen which helps to keep your skin looking youthful and your ligaments and tendons strong. Vitamin C is also needed to keep your immune system working optimally. Pears are a good source of copper which works with iron to help make red blood cells.

Make sure you keep the skin on the pear as this provides fiber to support your gut health. Did you know that more than 50% of Australian children and more than 70% of Australian adults are not getting enough fiber? Fiber is essential for the health of your gut as well as provides other health benefits. These include a sustained energy release by slowing the release of sugar into your blood.  Grab a pear this month as they are at their best and your taste buds and body will thank you.
