Banana, Caramel & Coconut on Corn Thins slices

The sweet, creamy taste of a banana could be enough to add this fruit to your shopping list, but there are even more nutritious reasons to love bananas.

Bananas are rich in antioxidants which help to fight off free radicals. Banana is also a good source of potassium which promotes healthy blood pressure and vitamin B6 which is needed to make red blood cells.  Bananas are also a source of copper and magnesium.

One medium 100g banana will give your body around 12% of your daily needs of vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed to support your immune system to work at its best and is also needed to make the protein collagen. Collagen is needed for healthy tendons, ligaments and to keep your skin looking youthful.

Bananas also help to keep your gut and gut microbiome happy. Providing around 3g per average 100g banana. This includes inulin which acts as prebiotic fibre, or the food for your health promoting microbes. Inulin also helps your body to absorb the mineral calcium.

A perfect pre-workout snack, a 100g banana will give your body around 29 g of carbohydrate to help fuel your muscles and your brain for a workout. For recreational movers 30-60g of pre-workout carbohydrates is sufficient.

Here is a way to make this:

4 Corn Thins slices (20 g) + 1 banana (29 g) = 49 g total carbs

Celebrate  with a fruit that truly shines, the banana!
