2024-07
Do you have a sweet tooth? You may believe that you can’t satisfy this craving while looking after your health at the same time. The good news is that there are choices or swaps which you can make which will reduce the added sugar in your diet.
The World Health Organization recommends that to promote your health no more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar are the goal each day. Here are some easy swaps you can make to help limit the amount of added sugar in your day while still satisfying your sweet tooth:
- Swap a donut or slice of cake for 3 Corn Thins slices topped with 100% nut butter and cinnamon on top.
- Swap a flavored yoghurt with added sugar for a Greek yoghurt topped with your favorite fruit to sweeten without added sugar.
- Instead of adding honey or sugar to your cereal use fresh fruit and cinnamon instead!
- Swap a muffin for a homemade muesli bar sweetened with dried fruit like dates.
- Swap a handful of candy for a handful of dried fruit or trail mix.
- Swap a store bought ice cream for a frozen banana dipped in yoghurt or your own frozen yoghurt ice block.
- To satisfy your chocolate craving try swapping a chocolate bar for your own oven roasted nuts dipped in dark chocolate. The dark chocolate acts as a polyphenol and prebiotic fuel for the health promoting microbes in your gut!
