Food Philosophy

Real Foods is a wholly Australian owned and family operated company, established in 1980 by Michael Pels, the current owner and Managing Director.

Real Foods pioneered the development and introduction of rice cakes into the Australian market in the 1980s. Since commencing manufacture of rice cakes, we have actively been developing and improving the technology used in rice cake production, and have been manufacturing our own rice cake machines since 1985.

Real Foods Corn Thins were first launched into the Australian market in 1996, and was the first product under the Real Foods brand name.

With this revolutionary new product, Real Foods was able to produce a product with the delicious taste of popped corn, which also has a nutritional value that is superior to that of the already very healthy rice cake. This enabled the company to produce a product that would satisfy the large percentage of consumers who want to eat healthily, without having to sacrifice taste. Corn Thins uniqueness made them an instant hit upon entry into the market, and were soon competitive with products in the biscuit category made by much larger Australian and Multi-national companies. This remains the case today.

After first expanding into the New Zealand market in 1999 Real Foods have successfully branched into South Africa, the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Israel, Hong Kong, Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

Today, Real Foods Corn Thins is one of the highest selling crispbreads on the Australian market, and its popularity in increasing year by year.
